Solid Solution Strengthened Nickel Alloys
Solid solution strengthened nickel alloy castings are high-performance alloys designed for either exceptional high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance, or lower temperature corrosion resistance obtained by solid solution strengthening. In these alloys, elements such as Chromium (Cr), Iron (Fe), Molybdenum (Mo), Cobalt (Co), and Tungsten (W) are added to nickel in significant amounts, and strengthen the FCC matrix by impeding dislocation motion.
Common examples of solid solution strengthened nickel alloys include Alloy 625 (CW6MC), Alloy 825 (CU5MCuC) and Hastelloy™ variants. These alloys are widely used in industries such as marine, chemical processing, power generation, particularly for components such as valves and pump bodies.
