MACPLUS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

MacPlus was a large collaborative project that aimed to increase the net efficiency of coal fired plants by increasing the performance and reliability of critical components such as HP and IP steam turbine rotor components and turbine casing up to 750-780 °C

Within the project, Goodwin produced the worlds largest precipitation hardened nickel alloy casting in alloy G130, which was developed in conjunction with the NextGen Power consortium. The casting had a net weight of 2,000Kg with a maximum section thickness of 180mm. G130 out performs other precipitation alloys when cast and exhibits good ductility, an important factor for manufacturability and fabrication. Test data suggests G130 is suitable for 100,000hr operation at 80MPa and 700°C, and potentially up to 750°:C
