A PRESTIGIOUS PAST...

Goodwin Steel Castings has been a supplier of castings since 1883, starting when the firm first rented an old colliery building in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.

The family firm of iron founders and engineers was established as a partnership led by Ralph Goodwin. Ralph’s partners were his four sons, George, John, Ralph Jr and William, together with friend Rushton and John Goodwin’s two sons, John Stanley and Frank.

Originally iron founders supplying local industries, the company has grown in size and capability over the years, incorporating several world firsts along the way. Whilst still casting iron, the company now excels in high integrity steel and nickel alloy based castings and has grown to occupy a 14 acre site, exporting castings globally.

The company has been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for International Trade, with over 80% of our product exported overseas. This was assisted by being the first steel foundry in the world to have an accredited Quality Management System (QMS) to ISO 9001.

The expertise of Goodwin Steel Castings has grown over the years, allowing us to be at the forefront of academic material advancement programmes, delivering technical solutions for future applications. Our core metallurgical understanding has further allowed us to excel at refining metals for other foundry facilities around the world as an additional service.

Today, Goodwin Steel Castings is a subsidiary company of Goodwin PLC, a diverse mechanical and refractory engineering group which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. As part of a diverse engineering group, the foundry maintains a strong capital base, as is required to support procurement of future long term programmes.
