NEXTGENPOWER

NextGenPower is an integrated European project which demonstrated new alloys in boiler, turbine and interconnecting pipework. The concept of NextGenPower was to perform innovative demonstrations that will significantly contribute to the EU target to increase the efficiency in existing and new build pulverized coal power plants.

As a member of Sub Project 2, Goodwin aided the selection of the best candidate alloys for the HP and ID steam turbines operating at high steam temperatures (≥720°C). Goodwin cast and evaluated a number of nickel-base γ high temperature materials namely alloys 740H, 282 and 263 and found inherent technical issues when producing heavy section components. Alloy G130, a Goodwin proprietary alloy, was developed to overcome these issues and extensive analysis has shown superior castability, reduced segregation, improved creep performance and stable microstructural stability compared to other candidate alloys
