Alloy steel castings exhibit mechanical properties superior to plain carbon steels as the result of additions of alloying elements such as nickel, chromium and molybdenum.

Properties which can be improved include: Higher tensile and yield strength; Low temperature impact properties; Oxidation resistance; Elevated temperature tensile properties.
