Accredited Management Systems


Quality Management: Accreditation to ISO9001:2008 is by BVQI. Goodwin Steel Castings was the first steel foundry worldwide to be accredited by the British Standards Institution to BS5750 (now ISO9001:2008). Accreditation was first granted in 1984.

Environmental Management: The foundry is accredited by BVQI to the environmental management system ISO14001:2004. It operates under an authorisation as a prescribed industrial processes under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Health and Safety Management: The foundry is accredited by BVQI to the occupational, health and safety management system OHSAS18001:2007.

Goodwin manufactures material conforming to BSEN 103240 (CE) .

Manufacturing Approvals


As well as management system approvals Goodwin is approved as a casting and material manufacturer by Lloyds Register (LR), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). Scope includes Carbon, Carbon-manganese and Alloy steels; Martensitic, Duplex and Austenitic stainless steels; Nickel alloys.

Nuclear Approvals


ASME NCA 3800 - Material Organisation: Goodwin have previously been authorised by American Society of Mechanical Engineers to ASME NCA 3800 as a material organisation. (Certificate: QSC-679 Expired:04-07-16) At this time the foundry retains an established nuclear quality manual and corresponding procedures which also facilitate nuclear class castings manufacture to the European RCCM nuclear code.

Rolls Royce Nuclear Sector - Submarines: Goodwin foundry and machine shop are approved by Rolls Royce for the supply of components for nuclear submarines. The scope of approval is limited to the manufacture of high alloy steel and nickel alloy castings, non destructive examination, radiographic testing and the heat treatment of Rolls Royce product forms.

Defence Approvals


NAVSEA Technical Publication T9074-BD-GIB-010/0300 TP-300 REV. 2 Approved: Goodwin are approved by NAVSEA for the supply of components for nuclear submarines. The scope of approval is limited to the manufacture of HY80 castings, non destructive examination, radiographic testing and the heat treatment.

Defence Standard 02-736 Part 3 Issue 3: Goodwin retain the capability to supply HY100 components for nuclear submarines.

Defence Standard 02-880 Part 3 Issue 1: Goodwin retain the capability to supply Q1N components for nuclear submarines.

Norwegian Approvals:


NORSOK Standards are developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry and intended to replace oil company specifications and serve as references in authorities' regulations. Goodwin Steel Castings are qualified to the most recent NORSOK M-650 Ed. 4 standard.

Materials qualified to NORSOK M-650 Ed. 4:

  • M-630 MDS D46 Rev 5 / ASTM A995 4A / UNS J92205 - Castings up to 240mm in section
  • M-630 MDS D56 Rev 4 / ASTM A995 6A / UNS J93380 - Castings up to 200mm in section
  • M-630 MDS N02 Rev 5 / ASTM A494 CW6MC / UNS N26625 - Castings up to 360mm in section
  • M-630 MDS R16 Rev 5 / ASTM A494 CK3MCuN / UNS J93254 - Castings up to 250mm in section

Goodwin qualification test records (QTR) cover steel production by means of AOD refining and induction melting of up to a stated casting thickness with unlimited weight restrictions. The QTR's were accepted by Lloyds Register EMEA and approved by Statoil ASA.
